Watrous Rotary was granted it's charter by Rotary International in 1939 and our club has been on a mission to improve the community and the lives of others both at home and abroad.  Past President Al Mosewich said Rotary International has grown into one of the most diverse and powerful service organizations in the world. “We are proud to have been a part of the success and are looking forward to what we can accomplish in the years ahead” said Mosewich. From helping to eradicate polio globally, to building a walking trail in our own backyard.

Over the years, Mosewich said they have undertaken numerous fundraising and service projects. Along with pool boards, suppers, raffles, auctions and garage sales, Mosewich said they have also done various service projects like meals on wheels, like building the Watrous Rotary Walking Trail and Gazebo, the Watrous Memorial Cenotaph Park and hosting the RCMP Musical Ride. Initiatives like Rotary student exchanges and donations to local organizations such as Camp Easter Seal and the Watrous District Health Complex highlight just some of the many. Presently meeting every other Tuesday for supper, in the lower level of the United Church, Watrous Rotary has gone through many changes over the decades. Mosewich added Rotarians have also been working to eradicate polio since the late 1970's.  “The end game plan is now in place and polio is the second disease to be eradicated in human history. The first was smallpox. So what does Rotary intend to focus it’s energy and effort on once polio is gone? Peace. Worldwide Peace. The prevention and resolution of conflict, is on the agenda next and Rotarians have a lot of experience in this area. Maybe we really can give peace a chance.
